The Friends seek to support and encourage the development, maintenance and recreational use of the Hackensack River Greenway through Teaneck.

This past year – with your support – we:
*Organized walks along the Greenway
*Presented lectures on topics of interest related to the Hackensack River
*Removed exotic invasive species, and provided for planting of native species along the Greenway
*Continued as an official Master Gardener Site for instruction and training
*Partnered with the Township to construct an ADA wheelchair accesible trail now called the Mary S. Topolsky Garden and Trail just north of Terhune Park.

Since we organized in 2000, we have expanded the trail from the three Township parks along the river- Terhune, Andrea and Brett by adding the trail through FDU campus, Riverside Drive and 640 River Road property.  We  continue to add to our schedule of events and to walking tour guides.  We have been working with Partners for Wildlife Program under U.S. Fish and Wildlife to tackle the problem of invasive plants along the river.  In 2009, the National Parks Services gave the Greenway in Teaneck, the designation of National Recreational Trail.  We are currently developing a wheelchair accessible trail at 640 River Road.

As a member:
*You will receive notices of all of our events, including free guided walks, concerts, boat trips, lectures and conservation work days held throughout the year.
*You will be supporting a unique, grassroots organization that is preserving our open space, protecting the environment, and promoting the continued expansion of the Greenway along the Hackensack River.

We are a non-profit 501(c) (3) volunteer organization made up of your friends and neighbors working together on behalf of Teaneck, and we rely entirely on the generosity of our membership to fund our important programs.  As you know, there is an increased pressure to develop in Teaneck; this makes open space along our Greenway more precious.

We hope that you will become a part of this wonderful organization, and we hope that we’ll see you often on the Greenway enjoying the special and unique natural place that together, we are helping to preserve.

Individual membership is $25 and a family membership is $40.  Contributions and memorials are always welcome.  Native trees and plants are expensive, so any donation you send will help restore the riverside a little sooner.
